Drought: Local People, Local Solutions

We aim to bridge the gaps of services, increase the resilience of rural communities and empower community groups to act on new ideas.

The things we do are;
*youth programs that increase resilience and community involvement like-Peer skills programs and camps. (Peer skills is an interactive workshop that builds upon listening, responding and problem-solving skills with young people so they can be better equipped to deal with peer issues/problems.)
*we take the time to listen to drought affected people & respond accordingly (connecting them to available services / support, etc)
*empower groups to run with ideas
*re-engage isolated people through programs like Rural Outreach Program - a telephone register that outreaches to isolated people, checking on their welfare, connecting them to available services and engaging them in crucial conversations
*address issues that arise from the ongoing affects of the drought (i.e. increased drug and alcohol usage among young people).

This program is funded by Bomar.
