The Goulburn Valley Community Legal Service Pilot has launched a range of free legal services as part of its commitment to meeting the needs of disadvantaged people in the Goulburn Valley. The pilot is an initiative of UnitingCare Cutting Edge and the Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre.
Community legal centres play an important role in disadvantaged communities. They work to increase access to justice through early intervention and prevention programs. They provide free legal advice, community legal education, law reform and community development services. The Service targets disadvantaged and vulnerable people who cannot afford to pay for private legal assistance.
The Community Legal Service will work alongside existing service providers, such as Victoria Legal Aid, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and private practitioners, to provide complementary and integrated services to people currently unable to access justice.
People can contact the service with a wide range of legal issues including: family law, family violence, fines, debt and credit, consumer and tenancy, crime, motor vehicle accidents, employment, discrimination, intervention orders, wills, immigration etc.
Free legal services now available include:
• Telephone advice services each Monday (2 - 4 pm) and Thursday (10:30 am 12:30 pm)
• an Evening Advice Service each Tuesday evening (6 - 8 pm)
• appointments as required – usually Tuesday and Wednesday.
